Summerland - Michael Chabon

Chabon does his version of 'Northern Lights' for Americans, and doesn't quite come up to scratch. Obsessively researched, as usual, but generally too surreal to hang together as well as his previous novels. Drawing philosophical lessons from baseball doesn't impress British readers. But as an attempt at a new American epic, it's certainly original.
