The latest literary favourite, nominated for a variety of prizes but apparently also rejected by a variety of publishers. I can see both sides - it's not entirely clear whether its uneven, dreamlike, surreal collection of linked vignettes and short stories actually works as a novel. But it's unusual and daring, something popular writing rarely seems to be.
