A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving

Several years ago, a radio dramatisation of this made a big impression on me so I'm not sure why it's taken so long to actually read it. And it is, of course, brilliant. Endlessly complex and multi-layered but at heart a tale of love, loss and friendship (oh, and religion; there's plenty on religion), it's one of those books that make you wonder why other, less accomplished, writers bother.

  1. I have decided I am going to reread this. Did you really read it in two days, or was it just two days between posts??!!!

  2. Heh, I could pretend I'm a speed reader but actually it took me about a month, with breaks for Excellent Women and The Bees.
