The Little Friend - Donna Tartt

Teenagers love 'The Secret History' for its eerie subversiveness and crossing of boundaries. It's taken Tartt 15 years to write the follow-up, and it's a shame she didn't spend her time gardening instead. This is a tedious novel - sprawling, badly edited and derivative too - but mainly it's just tedious with its overblown style and unengaging characters. And you never find out whodunnit, even after 555 pages. And what's the point in that?
