More historical servants, this time carrying out their well-researched duties during the English Civil War. I was lured by promises of luscious food descriptions but actually they're not particularly memorable, and neither are the characters. Or the plot. What was it about again?

  1. Hmm, sounds like a dud. I only read a few chapters, really couldn't get into it. I liked the writer's previous book (a previous book). But this one sounded better than it turned out to be.

  2. Yes, I think it was just too emotionless - you couldn't really care about what was going on because all the detail was about the historical context and not the characters' feelings.
