The nasty, or even mildly unpleasant, characters, die horribly, usually at the hands of the square-jawed hero. It's supposed to be funny, but without warmth and without wit it's just nasty and unpleasant. Ironically.
More crime comedy, this time from the male point of view. Despite (or because of?) the obvious men's midlife crisis wish-fulfilment, it's a fun, light read. Not as clever, witty or eccentric as Evanovich, but a good take on the genre all the same.
