Ever since overindulging on Christie as a 14-year-old, I've thought her mysteries to be formulaic and shallow, if moderately entertaining, and it seems I've been quite correct all these years. The most interesting thing about this one is that the murderer has the same name as one of my exes.

  1. My 12-year-old can’t get through “And Then There Were None”.

Perhaps she’s reading Christie through a more critical lens than I ever did.

  2. I think they're inevitably a bit dated now. I actually got this out of the library for my 12-year-old but she wasn't interested - but she did quite enjoy the Tommy & Tuppence stories, as they're rather more humorous and dynamic. And Robin Stevens' Murder Most Unladylike series is a great modern take on Golden Age detective stories for kids.
